Trend Report: A Dash of Holiday Glamour
Posted on December 03 2018
Ah the holidays. It’s the one time of year you can actually justify buying that sequined top you’ve been eyeing all fall. Here’s the perfect excuse, peeking out at you from your December calendar. What office party, family get-together or New Year’s soiree cannot be brightened by a dash of red silk or a smattering of silver sparkle, after all?
And that’s indeed what we are talking about this holiday season. After the last few years of less-is-more party dressing, designers are finally unleashing a dash of sparkle, glitz and glamour.
Here’s more good news: there’s no need to go out and buy an entirely new outfit (unless you want to, of course!). We’re generally not talking over-the-top glamour here but instead a statement piece, with embellishments: embroidery, polka dots, metallics and sequins.
Great fashion has always been about making women feel good, and this season is no exception. Look for bold reds and jewel tones, designed to be worn with confidence — while contributing to an overall look that’s grounded.
It is, for example, completely acceptable to begin your holiday outfit search in your own closet — a perusal of holidays past, perhaps. Select a pleated skirt, or sleek black pants and change it up with a sumptuous red blouse, like this one from Amanda Uprichard:
or a sequined top like this one from Velvet:
Alternatively, pair this sweater from Autumn Cashmere (note the sparkle AND polka dots) with more subdued black skinny jeans:
As for fabrics, silk and velvet are virtually ubiquitous this season. These flowy fabrics offer just the right amount of shimmer and shine to feel festive without going over the top. The fact that they’re also comfortable is indeed the proverbial cherry on top.
Perhaps you’ve already found the perfect dress or pairing of separates — all you’ll need to add is a pair of chic leopard-print heels or a faux fur wrap.
If you’re still looking, however, may we suggest this fabulous silver jumpsuit from Velvet:
It’s an envious combination of fun, glitzy and comfortable. Pair with heels... aaaaand you’re done.
Whatever you end up choosing for your holiday ensembles, we wish you good times with good company.
